Martha Riley Library - Roseville, CA
Land Architecture, Inc. was instrumental, working in collaboration with the Architect, on all of the site development aspects for this 11 million dollar City of Roseville public library project. The project received a LEED gold certification and is the first LEED certified public building for the City of Roseville. The LEED certification was partly achieved by utilizing reclaimed water for all landscape irrigation.
As part of the overall landscape architectural services LAI also provided hardscape design services, which were focused on the primary goal of bonding the adjacent existing sports center with the new library by means of a cohesive entry plaza statement. Unimpeded pedestrian flow from adjacent parking and between both buildings was crucial and the design challenge was to develop inviting exterior gathering spaces that would function as extensions to the building interiors. The challenge was met in creating a series of outdoor rooms that would allow for smooth pedestrian flow, and would also encourage outdoor activities, and provide opportunities for both formal and informal seating. Our work also involved early schematic studies for a future demonstration garden and amphitheater that will focus on energy conservation and sustainable design concepts.
